The man - Kendrick Maurice Williams - was last seen Jtme 18, accord ing to Ber- WILLIAMS tie County Sheriff John HoUey. Williams is described as an African American male who stands 6’-!” tall and weighs more than 200 pounds. He was last seen in the early morning hours of last Saturday (June 18). Sheriff Holley said Wil liams may be in a dark-col ored sedan. Williams is known to vis it the Tarboro and Princev- ille areas. Anyone with information on Williams’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Ber tie County Sheriffs Office at 252-794-5330 or use 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. There will be no property tax hike for county residents this year. The Bertie County Com missioners unanimously approved the county bud get for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year Tuesday evening, and the $24,319, 447.00 budget begins July 1,2022. There was also good news for low and moderate income families. Director of Local Community Affairs Merrill Flood reported that the Choanoke Area Hous ing Consortium will receive $733,850.00 in Housing and Urban Development funds to address low and moder ate income housing in the five counties that make up the consortium. “As you can see there is some lag time here, since the funds will not be avail able for some time. In his presentation, Su perintendent of Schools Dr. Otis Smallwood updated the board with the Summer Learning Program. “Remediation is going on now and summer learn ing began on Monday, June 21,” Smallwood observed. “It was originally scheduled for four days a week, but we are going to trim it back to three days in an effort to save money on fuel. “The tiines will be ex^ tended one hour to meet the requirements of RTA (Read- To-Achieve) for third grade students,” the superinten dent explained. 'There is so much tal ent here and so many piec es of art. It’s very exciting,” Wynn said.
